AUCTION MECHANICS

  • On placing a bid you should receive a confirmation email to confirm that you are the highest bidder at that time

  • If you are outbid you should also receive an email to let you know

  • Please check you spam and junk folders if you believe you should have received an email but haven't as they are often found there.

  • There is an anti-snipe function built into the auction this means that any bids entered in the last 3 minutes of the auction will mean the auction automatically extends for another 5 minutes. This way the person who is prepared to pay the most will win the auction, as opposed to the person with the best bid timing.

WINNER CONFIRMATION & PAYMENT

If you are the winning bidder you will be contacted shortly after the end of the auction, probably within 30 minutes

  • Please acknowledge that email with 24 hours

  • If you don't acknowledge the email within that timeframe the next highest bidder will then offered the flight and you will forfeit the opportunity

  • Once the email has been confirmed you will then be sent details of where you need to send payment

  • None of the funds will come to Spitfires.com, rather all of the proceeds will go directly to one of the charities

  • Due the short timeframe between the close of the auction and the flights themselves we require full payment within 24 hours of the payment details being sent.

  • If payment hasn't been made in that time, and you haven't contacted us to explain why, then the next highest bidder will be offer the flight, and so on.

Travel and accommodation

Unlike our regular Spitfire passenger flight experiences, your commemoration flight won’t start and finish at the same location. Therefore, you’ll need to:

  • Organise your own travel to the departure airport and from the arrival airport at your own cost

  • Cover the cost of any accommodation you might need

Flight time and day

We’d love to guarantee your flight will take off at the exact time we intend. But we’re bound by strict weather conditions for flying. And while we frequently service our aircraft, there’s always a chance, however small, that technical issues could arise. Your safety is always our top priority. So in these cases, we might be forced to adjust the time or day of your flight. But don’t worry. If you make the winning bid, we’ll fly at the next available opportunity. So we encourage you to  block out at least the day after your flight date as a backup plan. That way, you ensure you can participate in this once-in-a-lifetime event. Please be aware that we can’t refund your winning bid unless the 90th anniversary circumnavigation flight is cancelled outright. But the chances of this happening are incredibly small. So it’s no reason to miss out on becoming a part of history!

Flying in formation

Each flight includes 5 minutes in formation with RAF aircraft. At present, the precise aircraft for each flight might be unconfirmed. So check back regularly as more RAF aircraft join the event! No RAF aircraft will be launching specifically for these formations. Each flight will be tasked as an additional training element to an existing flight requirement. Intercepting and flying in formation with dissimilar types of aircraft is a key element of pilot training and currency. Like any flying organisation, the RAF could experience technical issues with their aircraft. And they might need to respond to unrest anywhere in the world. So the formation element of your flight can’t be 100% guaranteed. However, the RAF has agreed to do everything in their power to deliver the aircraft as promised, or to substitute with another similar type of aircraft if possible.

REFUNDS

We will only be able to offer you a complete refund if your flight doesn't go ahead at all. For avoidance of doubt this means in the event the Spitfire can't fly to the destination promised at all within the planned dates of the event due to a serious technical issue. The flight may be delayed and you are expected to be able to be flexible in this respect. If an element of the RAF formation doesn't happen for any reason will we negotiate a partial refund with you on a case by case basis.

Please keep checking our social media accounts for updates on changes to the formation elements of each flight.
