Estimated Flight Time: 55mins

Probable Formation Element: P8 Poseidon

Walking out to your Spitfire across the ramp at an RAF station on the East Coast of Scotland, the beautiful K5054 sat there eagerly awaiting you. Are you ready to unleash the 1700 horses on take-off? K5054 in the blocks ready to slip the surly bonds of earth and take you aloft across some of the most stunning mountain scenery!  As you roar down the runway, the sheer enormity of what you are about to experience hits you! Up over the North Sea and onwards up the East Coast, where many Photographic Reconnaissance Spitfires set off for sorties to Norway on flights of 5 hours looking for the German Battleship the Tirpitz!

Soak up the atmosphere and feel the lightness of the controls, the aerobatics easy as child’s play. Roll and loop over the stunning Scottish scenery before formatting alongside an RAF P8 Poseidon as you head towards RAF Lossiemouth.  55 luxurious minutes to taste and savour not only the fabulous scenery but also to see how the Spitfire performs.  Heading towards another historic wartime airfield. Not only was Leuchars an important training airfield but one that played a critical part in the sinking of the Tirpitz Battleship at the tip of Norway. The Airfield was also subject to enemy action, being bombed in October of 1940.

You can almost smell the whisky, but it’s not over yet as you break formation and head into the circuit.  One last breathtaking look at the view across the iconic wing as you slow the racehorse down to gear limiting speed and you imagine returning from a sortie over enemy territory and feeling grateful for that reassuring clunk of wheels down before you land and head of for a well-earned pint.
