Spitfire Propeller Rollerball Pen

These are the finest of  roller ball and fountain pens by Hordern Richmond Aircraft Limited, Historic and current manufacturers of Spitfire blades.  The barrel and lid of this exquisite pen has been machined from a section of decommissioned WWII Spitfire propeller blades at the HR propeller works and has the serial number of the blade from which it was made engraved. It comes in an English oak presentation box with a sliding lid.
 
Developed by Hordern Richmond in the 1930’s, the material of the blades is called hydulignum, fine veneers of birch compressed together with a resin to create a very strong yet light material for propeller blades. The metallic components are machined from stainless steel here in England and given a subtle brushed finish.
 
A fine piece of precision engineering and aviation history, with particular links to the Richmond family at Goodwood, this is a very special pen that will always be treasured.
