Mark Hillier

Mark Hillier

Mark has been involved in aviation as an enthusiast and hobbyist for the past 30 years. He is a qualified RAF VR(T) Gliding Instructor, a Private Pilot and Class Rating Instructor on tailwheel aircraft. He has flown many types including the de Havilland DHC-1 Chipmunk, the Noorduyn Harvard and the Boeing Stearman.


Mark is also a published aviation historian, having authored 14 books and has appeared on television speaking about topics such as the P47 Thunderbolt, the Avro Lancaster and the Supermarine Spitfire.


With a background in the construction industry, Fire Safety and surveying, Mark has extensive experience with managing companies and operating in a safety conscious environment.


As our resident aviation historian, Mark carries out regular hangar talks for public and private functions and conducts tours for our customers. He adds significant knowledge and depth to our Spitfire flying experiences and brings airfield history to life for our guests and passengers alike.


Mark is Spitfires.com’s Head of Operations and Head of Health and Safety.
