About us

About us

We’re a company of passionate Supermarine Spitfire experts who believe it’s essential to keep Spitfires flying. That way, we can commemorate the iconic aircraft’s exceptional World War II history, first immortalised through victory in the Battle of Britain.

Who we are

The Supermarine Spitfire is a British single-seat fighter aircraft that was used by the Royal Air Force and other Allied countries before, during, and after World War II. It was the only British fighter produced continuously throughout the war. The Spitfire was a short-range, high-performance interceptor aircraft designed by R. J. Mitchell, chief designer at Supermarine Aviation Works. During the Battle of Britain (July–October 1940), the more numerous Hurricane flew more sorties resisting the Luftwaffe, but the Spitfire captured the public’s imagination, in part because the Spitfire was generally a better fighter aircraft than the Hurricane. Much loved by its pilots, the Spitfire operated in several roles, including interceptor, photo-reconnaissance, fighter-bomber, and trainer, and it continued to do so until the 1950s.

At Spitfires.com we give you the chance to experience the flight of a lifetime in an authentic two-seater Spitfire. Each of our Spitfires is an original WWII veteran with real combat experience, expertly maintained by our talented in-house engineering team. And we fly from 10 locations around the UK and Channel Islands, always from airfields with their own wartime history.

Our heritage

Set up in 2010, Spitfires.com (formerly Boultbee Flight Academy) has become a leader and innovator in the world of Spitfires. We’ve created a number of industry-reforming regulatory changes. And we’ve successfully delivered plenty of ‘world-first’ Spitfire products and events!

We were the first company in the world to gain Academy status, allowing us to train Spitfire pilots in two-seater Spitfires for remuneration. And after creating the mechanism to take paying passengers in the back of a two-seater Spitfire, we became the first company in the world approved to do so!

Today, Spitfires.com is the only Spitfire passenger flight operator that offers flights nationally across the United Kingdom. And we hold a world record as the first company to successfully fly a Spitfire around the world, piloting the famous Silver Spitfire.
