Bill grew up in Africa and USA before a family move the UK.  He went on to study Pure Mathematics at London School of Economics and Political Science before joining the Royal Navy as a pilot in 1984.


Bill flew operational roles in the RN, firstly as a search and rescue helicopter pilot and then, after fast jet training, as a Sea Harrier pilot from HMS Invincible.  After a number of years as an operational test and evaluation pilot, flying the Sea Harrier F/A 2, Bill worked in the USA flying F/A 18C Hornet and AV-8B Harrier at the United States Navy’s weapons test centre at China Lake, California. 


On return to the UK in 2006 he served at RAF Cottesmore with Joint Force Harrier before leaving RN Service in Jan 2008.   He worked as an aerospace consultant on various projects before joining Rolls-Royce plc in 2011. 


Bill currently flies the Rolls-Royce Company Mk XIX Spitfire, PS 853, as well as the Boultbee Flight Academy’s two seat Spitfire, G-ILDA.  He is also a qualified helicopter pilot (Bell 407 and R44).
